April Lockhart
April Lockhart was born on July 4 1995 In seventh grade she began playing the guitar as well as taking piano lessons which ignited her passion for writing songs. When she was in seventh grade April started taking guitar and piano lessons. The lessons sparked her passion in songwriting. When she was 14, April devoted much of her time singing and writing songs. After that, she started taking excursions to write with her father in NY as well as LA. April started to include other subjects in the book, Take My Hand, for her friends who were dealing with disabilities, peer pressure or even suicidal thoughts. Lockhart collaborates with popular cosmetics brand Ilia as well as an influencer in the lifestyle industry who has a growing fan base. Her birth was without a left hand and that is an aspect of her identity, but it's hardly her whole story. Lockhart's profile on Twitter doesn't shy away from her status as disabled and does not focus on it. What message does it convey? It is important to remember that everyone has multiple faces. Our identities vary and we're much greater than the bodies we wear. Lockhart stated in a video interview that she didn't want to be defined solely by her handicap. She doesn't want to become a disability advocate who only speaks about it. There are a lot of aspects to Lockhart. It doesn't impact my daily activities. I carry on the same way as I always do and have come up with my own ways to adapt. In addition, I see it a very important aspect of me. Lockhart has been a great example to other women with regards to self-acceptance. She admits that she has gone through periods of feeling insecure about her body, and also feeling uncomfortable wearing some clothing types which exposed her arms. Today, she wears whatever she wants and posts images of her outfits to social media, she is proud of herself. One of the keys to self-love for her is the fact that it's not a goal. However, that is common for anyone with doubts. I think it's important to surround yourself with those who can identify and feel your heart.
