Laura Linney, best known for her strong but vulnerable characters, is one of the most celebrated American actors of the present. Her father was an acclaimed writer, however she was raised as a single child with a single mother and nurse. Through the summer months and with her father, Linney developed a passion for the theatre. Linney eventually pursued acting initially in Brown University then at Juilliard School. Following her graduation she started an Broadway career. The following year, she began her career in the world of television. Her appearances have been on a variety of stages, films and television programs since. In her long career, she has received numerous awards. These comprise the two Golden Globe Awards and four Primetime Emmy Awards as well as three Academy Award nominations and five Tony Award nominations. The actress has received nominations for five Tony Awards, and three Oscar Award nominations. But, in spite of her distinctions and awards, theatre is still her passion and she'll continue to perform on stage and screen.
